What is Radio Popbitch?
Radio Popbitch is an internet radio station brought to you by the people behind the weekly Popbitch newsletter and website.

How does it work?
You search for a record or artist you want to hear, select it and it will be cue'd up to be played. Most popular tracks bump the queue, and there's a clever algorythm thingy (or weasel) in our system that decides what does get played. You don't get your own stream of music - like Pandora - everyone hears the same thing. It's a radio station that is programmed by listeners, and it will play through your music player (probably iTunes).

What can I hear?
A little bit of everything. Listeners can choose tracks from our huge library of songs (which continues to grow every week), ranging from 50s to the very latest releases.

How do I listen?
There are three streams - high, medium, slow. If you have a very speedy machine and a fast internet connection try high, it's the best quality, though for most computers and internet connections medium and slow will still work brilliantly and maybe more effectively. Radio Popbitch sounds best through proper speakers.

Okay, I tried that but nothing’s playing.
Occasionally we do some maintenance work that could explain it. Try again in a few minutes. If it still doesn't work, and your music player is usually ok, drop us an email at hello@radiopopbitch.com.

Do I have to register?
Anyone can listen, but you need to sign in to request tracks. As soon as register do you'll build up a profile of everything you do on Radio Popbitch.

How do I browse?
If you're feeling short of inspiration then try typing a single letter into your search. Every song or artist beginning with that letter will come up.

Otter or Rotter?
If you love or hate a track, please tell us! We have a simple like/hate tracking system called Otter or Rotter. You can rate each track that is playing. If you don't like it, help our system learn your tastes by hitting Rotter. And if you like the track, press Otter. If enough of you Rotter a record it'll quietly disappear. The top Otters will get preferential treatment next time they're requested.

I can't find a track I want to request.
If we don’t have something that we should, then let us know. And it doesn’t matter how famous or obscure it is. Email hello@radiopopbitch.com. (Of course, there may be a good reason why we don’t have anything by your favourite band…)

What's that Whisper box?
It’s there for you to chat about the music playing. Like a tiny messageboard or instant messenger to loads of potential friends/weirdos.

What's all this nonsense about llamas and alpacas?
Well, it's all a bit Animal Farm in here. Not all creatures are equal. People whose music taste is liked by other listeners get extra mysterious powers, more frequent requesting, choose a playlist etc.
